I knew Jill for 60 years, first in Rhodesia and later in the UK, mainly since she moved to Oxford. Jill was a great friend, a lovely gentle person and she will be sorely missed. The last occasion we spent happy times was the summer before last when she took the train to London and we met up off Oxford Street with Carole who was visiting from Australia. We had a very happy memorable day.

My thoughts turn to you all every day - from far away in South Africa. My memories go far back to our childhoods - warm scones baked by Aunty Jill for picnics in the back garden, Sunday lunches and ice cream sandwiches and staying the night in a house where we could always hear her laughing. And then when I was older, penniless and jobless she took me in and looked after me until I got back on my feet as if I was her own daughter. Christmas always makes me think of her too. Festive Ginger Squares to drink and next day the best left-over-turkey curry I’ve ever had!! Our families have mostly been far far apart but only in body, not in heart and that’s where I’ll find her and all of you when my mind wanders back to those happy days. All my love, Lisa. Xxxxxx
